Barcode encyclopedia : Symbology 25interleaved
Known as : ITF2 of 5 Interleaved, ITF
Good symbology, high density, numeric only, code two digits to one symbol. The odd position digits are encoded in the bars and the even position digits are encoded as spaces. This barcode must consist of an even number of digits.
Interleaved 2 of 5 optionally allows for a weighted modulo 10 check character for special situations where data security is important. ITF is same as EAN-13, but added one leading zero, because named too ITF-14.
Very compact symbology, because odd digits create bars and even digits is placed into spaces with odd digits in order. Bars and spaces is used.

The consistent use of two wide elements out of five provides an easy method of character error checking. The Interleaved 2 of 5 barcode does this by interleaving characters encoded in the bars with characters encoded in the spaces.
Code 2 of 5 does not use intercharacter spaces, this means this code is continual. Its continuous nature and its interleaving of the message characters make the Interleaved code the most complex of the 2 of 5 family to print and decode. The interleaving of characters also requires that an even number of characters be encoded.
